Lois has 25 years of experience
preparing landscape plans for homeowners, small
scale commercial and
planned developments. She brings an extensive knowledge
of plants and landscape solutions to all her planning
projects and consultations. By participating in
many community projects, in addition to residential
work,
she has gained an understanding of the needs of
larger organizations, various age groups and
backgrounds.
She is a independent landscape designer and is
not employed by any one contractor. This allows
the client to get
competitive bids from qualified contractors.
Educational Background:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Ornamental
Horticulture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
- Art and Design Training from College of Marin
and Cal Poly
- Hands on training in landscape construction through
apprenticeship.
Other Related Interests:
- A lifelong passion for working with
plants and gardening. Testing plant varieties and
techniques in her
own gardens, other gardens that she has designed
or installed, and in a school garden.
- Extensive use of Artists materials,
craft products and fiber arts. The skills that
she has learned
as an accomplished artist and seamstress have come
in quite handy in visualizing the construction
and
design of gardens which are, after all, living
art.
- As a volunteer for many years in
the schools, working with all ages of children
in a school garden,
teaching natural science and ecology and co-ordinating
group activities, she understands the need to provide
inviting spaces for youngsters to draw them outside.
- Her senior thesis at Cal Poly was
on "Deer
Proof" gardens. She has added to this knowledge
over the years
and can provide information to those in need of
assistance in this area.
- Her background includes training
in native plants, ecology and natural science so
she is very familiar with
California plant communities and their application.
